Preparing Your Entry
- Write an essay that discusses the 2026 topic: The argument for de-extinction

The entrant’s essay might explain what de-extinction is, the technologies involved (such as gene editing, cloning, or selective breeding), and the scientific, ecological, and ethical considerations surrounding bringing extinct species back. You may explore potential benefits (biodiversity restoration, ecological repair, scientific advancement) as well as risks or concerns (ecosystem disruption, animal welfare, cost, unintended consequences).
Offer your conclusion(s): Should we pursue de-extinction? Why or why not? -
The essay MUST be evidence-based and include all sources used as a reference list at the end of the essay.

Submitting Your Entry by 26 June 2026 (Digital Entry)

- Entries must be submitted in .pdf format
- The filename must be in the following format: section code – school year – xxxx . For example, if you are in year 10, and you enter the scientific journalism, your filename would be: SJ-10-xxx. Your school and name will be added automatically to the name of the file.
